# Trailer Dealer Marketing: Fix Tracking, Follow-Up, Then Ads

> Trailer dealer marketing works in a set order: track visits and leads, list every trailer, follow up the same day, then spend on ads.

Start by tracking visits and leads. Then put every trailer in stock online with photos, specs and price, and answer every lead the same day. Spend on Google Search and Facebook ads only after that, and judge them by leads from each source.

Most trailer dealers do it the other way round. They buy ads first and can't say which ones brought a call. This guide gives the order that fixes that.

## The steps in order

1. Install GA4 or Google Tag Manager and a Meta pixel.
2. List every trailer in stock with photos, specs and price.
3. Keep quote and call forms short and send all leads to one inbox.
4. Follow up the same day by text and phone.
5. Run Google Search ads on trailer type plus town.
6. Run Facebook retargeting and post stock on Marketplace.
7. Each month, count leads and sales by source and move budget to what works.

### 1. Tracking

GA4 counts visits and where they came from. A Meta pixel lets Facebook show ads to people who looked at your trailers. Tag Manager can load both. Without them, you pay for clicks and never learn which ones turned into a quote.

### 2. Stock online

A buyer wants to see the trailer before he drives out. Give every unit its own listing with photos, specs and price. Flatbeds, step decks and dump trailers each need their own page or filter so a buyer finds his type fast.

### 3. Short forms, one inbox

Ask for a name, a phone number and the trailer they want. Nothing more. Send every form, call and message to one inbox so a quote can't sit in someone's personal email.

### 4. Same-day follow-up

Text first, then call. A pile of quotes with no call back is money you already paid for. Set a rule that every lead gets a reply before the lot closes.

### 5. Google Search ads

Buy the search a buyer types: the trailer type plus your town, like "dump trailer for sale" and the name of your town. Keep the ad pointed at that trailer's listing, not your home page.

### 6. Facebook and Marketplace

Run retargeting to people who already visited your site. Post stock on Marketplace too, with the same photos and price as your listing.

### 7. Monthly count

Once a month, write down leads and sales from each source: Google, Facebook, Marketplace, walk-ins, calls. Move budget toward the source that sold trailers. Cut the one that only filled the inbox.

## Why tracking comes first

Of the 182 sites that loaded in our scan, 48 (26.4%) had no Meta pixel, no GA4 and no Google Tag Manager in their home page code. That is about a quarter with no tracking at all.

The split by tool looks like this:

- 132 of the sites (72.5%) showed no Meta pixel.
- A pixel loaded through Tag Manager wouldn't show in the scan, so the true share without one is somewhat lower.
- 52 of the sites (28.6%) had neither GA4 nor Tag Manager.

For those dealers, most ad spend can't be measured. Fix this before you add budget.

How we measured it: on 2026-08-01 we scanned the home pages of 220 sites from our research into lot-based dealers, mostly dealers plus a few of the agencies that sell to them. The 182 sites that loaded are the base for every share above.

## Advertising rent-to-own and financing

Rent-to-own is regulated by statute in 47 states, according to the [state statutes index kept by APRO](https://www.rtohq.org/rent-to-own/state-statutes/), read 2026-08-01. Check your state's rules before you put rent-to-own in an ad or on a listing. The wording of the payment and the terms can be covered by those rules.

## Before you hire a marketing agency

Open the agency's own home page code and look for GA4, Tag Manager and a Meta pixel. Our scan included agency sites, and some were missing them too. If an agency doesn't track its own site, ask how it will track yours.
